The latest Star Wars movie trailer has been released with Skellig Michael again featuring well.

The movie is set for release on December 15th 2017, hopefully this will bring a welcome boost in tourism for 2018

And the additon to the  island of a new creature… The Porg

Porgs were only invented to cover up the actual adorable creatures that turned out to be a huge pain in the ass for writer/director Rian Johnson. Skellig Michael, the Irish Island on which the Luke Skywalker scenes were shot, is a wildlife preserve that pays home to “hundreds” of puffins—squat little birds that bear a not-inconsiderable resemblance to Porgs. And by law, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was not permitted to mess with the puffins.

Paul Devane, who runs Skellig Michael Cruises that offers Landing and Eco tours to the Skelligs, said he was hoping for a “bounce back” next year after the Star Wars film comes out in December.

Mr Devane said there had been a decline in business coming his way compared with last summer due to bad weather.

Tourism Ireland said The Wild Atlantic Way achieved a “major coup” with a new, behind-the-scenes teaser video for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’.

Filled with action shots and outtakes, the video features magnificent scenery from Skellig Michael and the Wild Atlantic Way.

The director of ‘The Last Jedi’, Rian Johnson, went to Skellig Michael with his cast in September 2015.

The location scouts were so impressed with the Wild Atlantic Way that they came back for a second shoot in May 2016. The full article in the Irish Independant can be read here :-
